Monday January 20

Room 7 was so happy to be able to go outside for recess. In fact, I had a couple of students dancing as they walked out the door with their arms open wide basking in the warm sunny air. It really is amazing how important it is for students to have the opportunity to get sunshine and fresh air after being cooped up inside all last week.

In Science we are exploring two different topics simultaneously, hearing and sound and animal life cycles. Each week we will be exploring one of the topics and eventually they will blend together. Although this week may be a bit different as we will be reviewing key vocabulary for hearing and sound and completing our animal lifecycle pages to get ready for our field study next week.

In Math we have been exploring addition and subtraction questions. Each student has identified which strategy they like most for each operation. Some students use the same strategy for each operation and some use different ones. Ask your child which strategy works best for them.

I have also noticed that I am not very good at doing blog, therefore I am going to put it back onto the students. Each day I will be going to choose two students who will create a post together.

Reminders
- field study forms need to be brought back to school
- I still need 2 more volunteers for the zoo field study on the 30th of January

Today in math we learned multiple strategies for multiplication. We learned that skip counting was a good tool for most of the class. for example: 4 x 5=?? 5, 10, 15, 20 Also 5x5= 25.We are only going up to 5x5. We started floor hockey in gym we started using bean bags but recently we switched to pucks.  How we do it is we find a partner and pass the puck or bean bag back and forth, some times we do passing around the gym in a circle and some times we do it up down the gym. We are reading Wonder we are almost done it it is a cool book because it has a bunch of different perspectives by different characters. Mattie, Oliver, Ariah Reminders Field study forms need to be in as soon as possible.

Week 7

Good afternoon Grade 3 Families,   Thank you to  all  our parents and caregivers for your continued support and encouragement as we plan, review, meet and assess our students.  It is just as much a learning curve for you as it has been for us and our students. We wouldn’t be able to be as successful as we are without you. The grade three teachers  appreciate the feedback received from parents through the survey and are continuing to modify and enhance our planning to make things easier for everyone.  The  survey  is  still available for those  who would still like to contribute their feedback.   It   should take only a few moments.    Link to  s urvey:   Grade 3 Parent Feed Back Survey     Week  7  Learning Plan:     Week 7 Learning Plan Link     Reminders:     Monday:  Meet up 1pm – Go through the week’s assignmen...

Friday September 6

Students have had an amazing week getting to know each other, the class routines and reviewing concepts taught last year. For example . . . . . . in Math we have been playing two Math games to review place value. Have your child teach you either 'guess my number' or 'place value war'. By the end of grade three students in grade three should be able to understand, represent and say numbers up to the thousands place value (9 999). One of the key things that we worked on when we say numbers is to avoid using the word 'and'. Have your child explain why. . . . in Art we have been reviewing colour. We already know colours but we reviewed which colours are considered primary and secondary colours. We then identified warm and cool colours. We should have our art pieces completed for parent teacher interviews. . . . in writing we are getting back into the groove of remembering capitals at the beginning of sentences and periods at the end of sentences. Students comp...
