This week at school we learned to, skip count for division in math. For example, 24 divided by 4, we would skip count by 4's. We will stop at 24 and count how many numbers we recorded. 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 and then 24. There are 6 numbers. When we were working with the artist in residence, we learned about photography. For example, the real way the eye sees is upside down. In art, we are doing mosaic animal art. You do not have to choose the real colors of your animal. There has to be spaces in between the shapes. We had special guest today. we were learning about cameras. She made her own camera it is called a pin hole camera and she could take real picture with it. We learned the parts of the camera. There is a shutter and a lens and an aperture and finally the flash. she told us the history of the camera. In math we are learning division strategies wich are pitchers, multiplication chart, hundreds chart and  skip counting. We are doing I do/ we do/ you do. That means the teacher shows us the strategy first, then we do it as a class, and then we try it individually. In writing we are making books about our animal.

Good afternoon families, I hope you all enjoyed a long weekend and got some time outside. I am still working towards keeping you all up to date better through the blog. Obviously this is something I need to work on. I have sent out an email telling all parents the up and coming field studies. Due to student voice, we had to rush and book some places back-to-back. We are really hoping that all goes well in getting our volunteers! This is the letter that was sent home today through school messenger.  Below you will find the dates of each field study for the remainder of the year. If you are interested in volunteering, please email your child teacher the date(s) you are interested. We will then confirm that your security clearance is up to date and you have completed your annual registration form. Your classroom teacher will send you a confirmation email to inform you of possible next steps and/or which dates they will require your support. If you are no longer able to commi

Today in math we learned multiple strategies for multiplication. We learned that skip counting was a good tool for most of the class. for example: 4 x 5=?? 5, 10, 15, 20 Also 5x5= 25.We are only going up to 5x5. We started floor hockey in gym we started using bean bags but recently we switched to pucks.  How we do it is we find a partner and pass the puck or bean bag back and forth, some times we do passing around the gym in a circle and some times we do it up down the gym. We are reading Wonder we are almost done it it is a cool book because it has a bunch of different perspectives by different characters. Mattie, Oliver, Ariah Reminders Field study forms need to be in as soon as possible.

In math this week we began looking at multiplication. By the end of grade 3, students should have their basic facts up to 5 x 5 memorized with the fact family of division. Meaning if a student know 3x4 = 12 then, 12 divided by 3 = 4. The strategy that we have been using is blocks and pictures. Students all understand that 3 x 4 means we have 3 GROUPS OF 4. We also know that although 4 x 3 gives us the same answer, it means something different, 4 GROUPS OF 3. This foundational knowledge will help students when they begin to work with word problems and division. Ask your child some basic facts and have them show you using beans, beads, dots what this looks like. For those of you who want to try another strategy for multiplication, we will be looking at skip counting next. For example 3 x 4 means we count up by 4 three times (4, 8, 12). I am also sending home field trip forms for the Arts Commons tomorrow. This field study is on February 19th. If you are available to volunteer, ple
