Week 13

Good afternoon Grade 3 Families,

This is a very sad week for us as this will be the last week where we see all of your wonderful faces on the google meet ups, we will be reading the last Friday letter you wrote to us and of course watching the talent show to share your passions. All the grade three teachers are sad to see the year come to an end. On that note, we will be changing the time of the meet up this coming Friday. Instead of meeting at 1pm, we will be meeting at 9am. This will allow for siblings to watch the grade 4 celebration and be done before noon. Please make note of that in your calendar so your child does not miss out.

In closing, we would like to share some housekeeping items with you to keep you informed.

  • Picking up items – Mr. Laidlaw will have sent time of when and where you can pick up the rest of your child’s learning items. We have placed everything that we can find into clear plastic bags with the childs name on the outside.

  • Google Classroom – we will be leaving the classroom open over the summer, HOWEVER it will be in a READ ONLY format. This should allow you to be able to click on the links and resources we have complied during the past 3 months. You will not be able to submit any work to the teachers.

  • Assigned work – Teachers will be returning ALL assignments submitted through google classroom next week sometime. You will find that the student email account will be overrun with new mail. Feel free to take a moment to clean that up for the student before September. It is recommended that you select “all” and delete the emails. They are no longer needed.

  • Raz Kids – We are thankful to Raz kids for offering this free service over the past three months. Unfortunately, this service will no longer be available over the summer. Please don’t forget about the Calgary Public Library. I know their service is a bit interrupted due to the current situation, but when it reopens, all students have free access to the books among other types of content. I believe that they also have a small selection of digital books.

Welcome to Online Learning

Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s):       Thank you for your patience as we work through some necessary planning in preparation for resuming structured learning opportunities for your child. I understand there has been a lot of uncertainty about what learning is going to look like moving forward. I can assure you that we are going to work on key learning outcomes at-home within the parameters established by the province and CBE.       To help me understand your family’s access to technology, can you please provide responses to the following three questions:   §    Does your child have access to a computer, laptop, iPad/tablet, smart phone? If so which types of technology might be accessible?    §    Does your child have access to the Internet?   §    Is your only option a paper-based education for your child?       While the lessons I will be providing are aimed to minimize technology, there will still be times where we will need to rely on technology as
Welcome to the 2019 – 2020 school year!   I would like to take the time to introduce myself, Denean Langlois. I will be your child’s grade 3 teacher. This year we will be working in room 7.   I will be waiting outside to meet you and your child Tuesday morning. I will be standing by the basketball hoops carrying a clipboard with my name on it to make it easier for you. Students will be using the north doors when they enter and exit the school at all times.   I would like to remind you of our school hours: 8:55am – 3:35pm, with early dismissal Fridays at 12:30pm.    To help your child be successful this year, please consider the following:   Eat a healthy, hearty breakfast   Have a good night’s sleep (go to bed at a reasonable time)   Send a healthy snack for morning flex time and if something is needed in the afternoon   Send indoor running shoes   My blog is in the process of being updated, however once it is active it c

Tuesday January 14

Happy Tuesday! I hope all of you are dressing warm for this weather. It is unbelievable how cold it is outside. These past two days week we have continued with our exploration of the human ear. Students made 3D models of the parts of the ear and then presented their models to the class. It was interesting to hear what materials were chosen for each part. For example, one student shared they chose a backwards cup for the pinna so the sound has a big opening and then funnel into the ear canal. One student explained they chose a material that was flexible to represent the ear drum so that the sound waves can create a vibration which can then travel through the bones to the cochlea. Ask your child how the ear works and what the purpose of each part may be. Field trip forms for the zoo were handed out today. I will need 5 volunteers for this field study. If you are available, please let me know through email. I cannot take more than 5 so the first 5 people will have preference on thi
