Thursday October 10

I am so sorry that I have not posted anything on the Blog this week.

On Wednesday we went to the Fish Creek Library and we were looking at different things that caught our eye (GA).  We noticed that the shape of the library is a broken a part pyramid (JS). When we came into the building we got to watch a slide show of old pictures of when the library was being built. After we got to explore the whole library (AF). Some students read, some students played, some students crafted and some explored. One of the things we learned is there is an amphitheater hidden under the floor and this is where they store things. They couldn't finish this part of the library because there wasn't enough money (DS).  I never knew they had so many offices (ST). The library was built in 1983 (SC). Today we sketched the Fish Creek Library and answered some of the questions we had about the story of that building (TD).

Today we finished our read aloud called "A series of Unfortunate Events". It is about three children whose parents have dies in a house fire and are sent to live with a near relative. The relative only wants the money that the children inherited. The events in the book share all the mischievous plans Count Olaf (the near relative) have to try to get the fortune of the children. This series has multiple books, and we have decided to start the second book of the series.

One of the students in our class brought in moss from their alley. He challenged us to try to grow the moss ourselves. We have decided to start an experiment and were trying to make it grow on each table group (JV). Each table group has decided on what they want to try to grow their moss on. Some groups are trying just rocks, some are combining woods chips with soil, and groups are using sand. It was suggested that students see what they have at home to put into the container to support this experiment. Not much is needed - no more than a small baggie as the containers are small.

Reminders
Field study on Wednesday. - 3 students still need to bring back their forms
No school on Monday

Week 13

Good afternoon Grade 3 Families,   This is a very sad week for us as this will be the last week where we see all of your wonderful faces on the google meet ups,  we will be reading t he last Friday letter you wrote to us and of course  watching  the  talent show to share your passions.  All the grade three teachers are sad to see the year come to an end.  On that note, we will be changing the time of the meet up this coming Friday. Instead of meeting at 1pm, we will be meeting at 9am. This will allow for siblings to watch the grade 4 celebration and be done b efore noon. Please make not e  of that in your calendar so your child does not miss out.    In closing, w e would like to share some  housekeeping  items with you to keep you informed.    Picking up items  – Mr. Laidlaw will have sent  a  time  of when and  where you can pick up the rest of your child’s learning ite...

Week 5

Good afternoon Grade 3 Families,   We hope everyone is doing well. The grade 3 teachers have been reviewing the work students have been handing in  this past week.  We are pleased with the work we have been seeing and are hoping that the changes  we have made to the structure of our classrooms  have made  schoolwork  easier for your family.    Please ensure that when your child is submitting an  assignment,  they click the submit button on the top  right-hand  corner of the screen. This ensures that their teacher knows the assignment has been  completed!              On a side note, please know we appreciate all the work our families are doing at home with the students. We understand every family has their own complexities at home and everyone is trying their best. We are here for all of you, to help you through this new type of learning. Please reach out if there ...

Week 4

Week  4:        The grade 3 teachers have been reviewing the work students have been handing in along with the expectations from Alberta Learning. We have decided to change things a bit with the hopes that this will be easier on students and families as they juggle th e “new normal”.    Students will have expected assignments and optional assignments.  Each assignment leads to the next therefore they will need to be completed in order but not necessarily on the suggested day. Feedback will be given to students  as assignments are completed. We have also included rubrics and checklists to help students know how they will be marked as well as they can meet high er  expectations.    Optional assignments, such as the passion project, are included for students who want extra work. These will not be formally  assessed but  will be considered when looking at final marks for  Language Arts....
