Monday September 23

Last Thursday our class had a very deep conversation about what is working and not working in our class. Students shared that morning literacy time is working well, exploration time is enjoyed and class meetings are appreciated. Students voiced concerns about noise level and when we had exploration time (right after lunch). In addition, students gave suggestions on how to improve and make changes in our classroom. Through this process, it was shown how much students appreciated having their voices heard and ideas shared to make change within their own classroom. Ask your child how they voice their opinions during class meetings and how it may have created change in our room or how they hope to make change.

Today in class, we began our exploration of buildings in other parts of the world, specifically Peru. To begin this exploration we searched images of "homes in Peru" and started to list characteristics of what we saw. It was brought to our attention by Mr. Emery when he visited our class that we may have to look not just at the pictures, but the captions of the pictures. Did you know there is a town called Peru in the the United States? We not only learned that the buildings in Peru look different than the buildings here, but we need to be mindful of how we search up information on the internet and how to confirm that the information is indeed what we are looking for. Ask your child, what can we do to ensure that the information we are looking at on the world wide web is 'right' for what we are looking for.

Reminders
Field study on Wednesday. Please check the weather and dress accordingly. We will be outside the entire time.

Today in math we learned multiple strategies for multiplication. We learned that skip counting was a good tool for most of the class. for example: 4 x 5=?? 5, 10, 15, 20 Also 5x5= 25.We are only going up to 5x5. We started floor hockey in gym we started using bean bags but recently we switched to pucks.  How we do it is we find a partner and pass the puck or bean bag back and forth, some times we do passing around the gym in a circle and some times we do it up down the gym. We are reading Wonder we are almost done it it is a cool book because it has a bunch of different perspectives by different characters. Mattie, Oliver, Ariah Reminders Field study forms need to be in as soon as possible.

Week 7

Good afternoon Grade 3 Families,   Thank you to  all  our parents and caregivers for your continued support and encouragement as we plan, review, meet and assess our students.  It is just as much a learning curve for you as it has been for us and our students. We wouldn’t be able to be as successful as we are without you. The grade three teachers  appreciate the feedback received from parents through the survey and are continuing to modify and enhance our planning to make things easier for everyone.  The  survey  is  still available for those  who would still like to contribute their feedback.   It   should take only a few moments.    Link to  s urvey:   Grade 3 Parent Feed Back Survey     Week  7  Learning Plan:     Week 7 Learning Plan Link     Reminders:     Monday:  Meet up 1pm – Go through the week’s assignmen...

Friday September 6

Students have had an amazing week getting to know each other, the class routines and reviewing concepts taught last year. For example . . . . . . in Math we have been playing two Math games to review place value. Have your child teach you either 'guess my number' or 'place value war'. By the end of grade three students in grade three should be able to understand, represent and say numbers up to the thousands place value (9 999). One of the key things that we worked on when we say numbers is to avoid using the word 'and'. Have your child explain why. . . . in Art we have been reviewing colour. We already know colours but we reviewed which colours are considered primary and secondary colours. We then identified warm and cool colours. We should have our art pieces completed for parent teacher interviews. . . . in writing we are getting back into the groove of remembering capitals at the beginning of sentences and periods at the end of sentences. Students comp...
