Monday September 16

Mondays are going to be busy days this year. Students are eager to move onto each activity especially as we figure out our routines. Today we introduced a new routine after lunch to help us get back into the green zone. As your child the 4 activities we will be trying to implement.

"Exploration centers changed. The ilab opened so we got to get books, or play math games, or conduct a science building challenge, or readers theatre" (TD)

Last week students were asked "what does a Scientist do?" Many answers were given, so each day in Science this week, we will be practicing the skills of a scientist. Today students were enthusiastically working through the Scientific process experiencing that Scientists "experiment" to build new understandings.

"Today in Science we made an experiment with milk, dish soap, and food coloring." Ask me what happened." SW

Reminders
Field trip forms were sent home today. Please have them signed and sent back to school by Friday. I am still in need of 2 more volunteers. The more volunteers we have create smaller the groups allowing deeper discussion to happen.

Please book an opportunity to meet with me for parent teacher interviews this Thursday and Friday.

Today in math we learned multiple strategies for multiplication. We learned that skip counting was a good tool for most of the class. for example: 4 x 5=?? 5, 10, 15, 20 Also 5x5= 25.We are only going up to 5x5. We started floor hockey in gym we started using bean bags but recently we switched to pucks.  How we do it is we find a partner and pass the puck or bean bag back and forth, some times we do passing around the gym in a circle and some times we do it up down the gym. We are reading Wonder we are almost done it it is a cool book because it has a bunch of different perspectives by different characters. Week 7

Good afternoon Grade 3 Families,   Thank you to  all  our parents and caregivers for your continued support and encouragement as we plan, review, meet and assess our students.  It is just as much a learning curve for you as it has been for us and our students. We wouldn’t be able to be as successful as we are without you. The grade three teachers  appreciate the feedback received from parents through the survey and are continuing to modify and enhance our planning to make things easier for everyone.  The  survey  is  still available for those  who would still like to contribute their feedback.   It   should take only a few moments.    Link to  s urvey:   Grade 3 Parent Feed Back Survey     Week  7  Learning Plan:     Week 7 Learning Plan Link     Reminders:     Monday:  Meet up 1pm – Go through the week’s assignmen...

Friday September 6

Students have had an amazing week getting to know each other, the class routines and reviewing concepts taught last year. For example . . . . . . in Math we have been playing two Math games to review place value. Have your child teach you either 'guess my number' or 'place value war'. By the end of grade three students in grade three should be able to understand, represent and say numbers up to the thousands place value (9 999). One of the key things that we worked on when we say numbers is to avoid using the word 'and'. Have your child explain why. . . . in Art we have been reviewing colour. We already know colours but we reviewed which colours are considered primary and secondary colours. We then identified warm and cool colours. We should have our art pieces completed for parent teacher interviews. . . . in writing we are getting back into the groove of remembering capitals at the beginning of sentences and periods at the end of sentences. Students comp...
