Monday September 16

Mondays are going to be busy days this year. Students are eager to move onto each activity especially as we figure out our routines. Today we introduced a new routine after lunch to help us get back into the green zone. As your child the 4 activities we will be trying to implement.

"Exploration centers changed. The ilab opened so we got to get books, or play math games, or conduct a science building challenge, or readers theatre" (TD)

Last week students were asked "what does a Scientist do?" Many answers were given, so each day in Science this week, we will be practicing the skills of a scientist. Today students were enthusiastically working through the Scientific process experiencing that Scientists "experiment" to build new understandings.

"Today in Science we made an experiment with milk, dish soap, and food coloring." Ask me what happened." SW

Reminders
Field trip forms were sent home today. Please have them signed and sent back to school by Friday. I am still in need of 2 more volunteers. The more volunteers we have create smaller the groups allowing deeper discussion to happen.

Please book an opportunity to meet with me for parent teacher interviews this Thursday and Friday.

Tuesday October 13

Today at school we had a Math problem. We are suppose to figure out how many pencils might be in two boxes if there is about 500 pencils (TD). We tried multiple strategies to figure out the answer (KC). For example some used a picture, division, and adding. This problem was an easier problem to learn the process of problem solving. In Science we were planning and talking about our field study tomorrow. We get to learn more about the new central library and other interesting buildings around the area. Our purpose for tomorrow field study is to explore different buildings and be able to compare them (GA). At the end of the day today we did exploration time. We had building centers. We were building structures (DD). This is to get us ready for our big project which we will be introduced to next week. Reminders - Tomorrow is our field study - dress for the weather. Only bring items that are needed in our backpack. Leave everything else at home.

Welcome to Online Learning

Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s):       Thank you for your patience as we work through some necessary planning in preparation for resuming structured learning opportunities for your child. I understand there has been a lot of uncertainty about what learning is going to look like moving forward. I can assure you that we are going to work on key learning outcomes at-home within the parameters established by the province and CBE.       To help me understand your family’s access to technology, can you please provide responses to the following three questions:   §    Does your child have access to a computer, laptop, iPad/tablet, smart phone? If so which types of technology might be accessible?    §    Does your child have access to the Internet?   §    Is your only option a paper-based education for your child?       While the lessons I will be providing are aimed...

March 31st Learning Plan

Welcome to our first week of on-line learning. Thank you to all our families for being patient as we learn how to use new platforms and how to best communicate with our families. We know there will be hic-ups along the way. We would like to begin by explaining our thought process in how we will move forward. This may change as we learn how to infuse technology and understand our student's needs in this new learning environment. Each Friday we will post a blog, similar to this one, where we share our learning intentions. Most tasks will be connected to the larger learning intention with smaller learning intentions embedded in the task. We will provide a possible schedule of when each task could take place to help in organizing yourself and your family. As mandated by Alberta Learning, we will focus primarily on literacy and numeracy, however being a Science alternative program we value the importance of integrating a Scientific perspective on the tasks we assign.  We strongly...
